A VERY RARE VARIETY!

A very rare and special dry pole bean variety. In doing research for this bean variety, I was unable to find any real information. It is also unavailable for sale anywhere in Canada or the US.

Here's what I know:

This variety originated in Sarconi, Italy, which is a town in the province of Potenza, in the southern region of Basilicata.

The beans are best grown to be eaten dry. Pods are not tender when immature. Beans are a combination of white with patches of brown, black or beige streaks. Shape is oval and fairly plump.

Digestion of these beans is easier than typical beans, as the skin is very thin and breaks down quickly. They require less time to soak than other dry beans, and cook much faster than others.

I acquired seeds many years back from a seed company, but the seeds were delisted. Since then, I’ve grown it out in my garden and continued to save seeds yearly. Each year, they produce abundant pods on tall climbing vines, that have enough time to develop, mature and dry in my short-season garden.

Growing Information:

Sow these beans as early as you can, once any risk of frost has passed. They have a long window of growth and require extra time to reach maturity.

Beans may be harvested once pods fully develop and beans within fill out. However, if looking to grow for dry beans, harvest when pods are brown and dry.

Planting depth: 1 inch
Spacing: 3 inches apart

Provide a good support structure, as their vines will grow long.

By growing out this bean and saving seeds, you will help to preserve a very rare variety!

Canadian Shipping
Shipping is calculated at the time of order and is based on the number of seed packets per order. All packages are shipped through Canada Post and pricing is the same for addresses across Canada.

Larger items are calculated by weight and destination.

International Orders
International seed orders are made at the buyer’s own risk and we cannot guarantee delivery. We will receive and ship orders, but cannot account for the actions of foreign customs, which is the reason for this non-guarantee. Unfortunately, I do not offer phytosanitary certificates so in the rare chance the seeds are confiscated or destroyed at the border, your order will not be refunded or reissued.

Non-seed orders are calculated by weight and destination.
