Brassica rapa sub chinensis
A beautiful deep purple leafed bok choy, that only averages a height of 6 to 7 inches. Perfect for tucking in between plants, growing in a small space, or adding colour to your garden bed.
Bok choy grows best in the spring and fall, having less pest pressure than during the summer months. Plants will grow slowly until the heat of summer kicks in, at which time they will bolt. Keep the soil evenly moist, as leaves will be tastier and more vibrant in colour.
Harvest individual leaves or entire heads. Use in salads, stir fries, wraps, kimchi, soups and more! A very versatile and mild tasting, sweet Asian green.
Can be grown in a cold greenhouse, indoors under growlights, hydroponically or in the vegetable garden. Cover with a frost blanket to prevent frost damage.
Growing Information:
Sow seeds indoors at least 4 to 5 weeks before the final frost date, or sow directly 1 to 2 weeks before the last frost. For specific planting dates in your area, check out my Seed Starting Calculator. It will help you to plan for your first to last seed sowings of the year.
