Prairie Fire Tomato
Beautiful oval-shaped, red elongated cherries with a pointed tip, grow to an average length of 2.5 to 3 inches. As the fruits ripen, they transition from an orangey tomato with green and gold striations to a deep red colour with gold striations, at full ripeness.
The flavour of this tomato is incredibly sweet! You’ll be surprised and delighted when you bite into your first vine-ripened fruit. The sweet flavour will explode in your mouth, making you snack on the fruit right in the garden. Luckily, the vines are extremely productive, regularly pumping out more fruit, so be sure to harvest regularly to encourage continuous fruit production.
Plants are semi-determinate, making them manageable with some staking.
Start tomato seeds indoors a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks before the final frost date. Please refer to my Seed Starting Calculator for specific planting dates for your planting area.
Tomatoes grow best in full sun and require consistent moisture, in order to avoid blossom end rot.
Transplant outdoors after all risk of frost has passed. Space your plants at least 2 to 3 feet apart, depending on how well you stake them. Stay on top of removing sucker stems.
Plants are indeterminate and require proper staking in order to support tall vines. Remove suckers to encourage growth of the main central stem.
