A great cherry tomato series to add to your vegetable garden is the Bumblebee series!
This particular variety is 'Pink Bumblebee'!
Pink bumblebee cherry tomatoes have a more oval shape than round, with a diameter of about 1 inch. Flesh is red, while skin is a bright pinkish-red with faint yellow or orange striping.
Flavour is sweet and juicy.
An important feature for me in cherry tomatoes is the skin. Pink bumblebee has a perfect thin skin, that breaks down easily when you chew and disappears in the mouth. Fruit is not susceptible to cracking after a rain, which is also very important.
In my garden, I found some mild late blight resistance, as other varieties succumbed faster than the bumblebee tomatoes.
Start seeds approximately 6 weeks before the final frost date and be sure to transplant out after all risk of frost has passed. (See my Seed Starting Calculator and Outdoor Planting Calculator for specific planting dates) Be sure to harden off properly to allow for an easy transition to the garden. For more information on hardening off, please see this post.
Tomatoes grow best in full sun. Be sure to maintain consistent moisture to prevent Blossom End Rot. Stake well, as this variety will grow tall and produce fruit well into the fall.
This variety is open-pollinated, so be sure to save a few seeds and grow them again in future.
I highly recommend this cherry tomato variety. It is one of my favourites!
