‘New Jersey Standard’ Tomato
18 in stock
If you're looking to grow a GIANT tomato in your garden, 'New Jersey Standard' is the tomato for you! Most of the fruit I harvested reached upwards of 2 pounds!
Little information exists on this variety and supply is limited.
Tomatoes are indeterminate, meaning they are vining and should be well trellised to support the weight of the fruit and to assist with optimal growth. Be sure to remove all suckers as they develop to redirect energy back to the main vine, fruit ripening and to prevent the plant from growing out of hand.
Delicious red fruit are great eaten raw, or cooked into tomato sauce as flavour is mildly acidic and has a traditional tomato flavour. One fruit will be enough to feed many.
Plants are indeterminate and require good staking to support tall growing vines.
Start seeds indoors at least 6 - 8 weeks before the final frost date. Please refer to my Seed Starting Calculator for specific planting dates for your area.
Transplant outdoors after all risk of frost has passed. Space plants a minimum of 2 to 3 feet apart, depending on how well plants are staked. Stay on top of removing suckers.
Tomatoes grow best in full sun.
