A most unusual tomato, 'Japanese Black Trifele' has a pear shape that really does resemble a pear! I love this variety so much and I couldn't be happier to offer it to you!
'Japanese Black Trifele' is an heirloom variety that originated in Russia. The word "japanese" in the title, actually has nothing to do with its origin.
Colour is a deep, rich brown with green shoulders and flesh is a dark reddish-brown.
Flavour of this tomato is rich, meaty, juicy and mildly sweet. Wonderful eaten raw, but will also cook down into a delicious sauce.
Fruit is crack-resistant and will grow to 3 inches wide and just as long.
Growing information:
Plants are indeterminate and require good staking to support tall growing vines.
Start seeds indoors at least 6 - 8 weeks before the final frost date. Please refer to my Seed Starting Calculator for specific planting dates for your area.
Transplant outdoors after all risk of frost has passed and space your plants a minimum of 2 to 3 feet apart, depending on how well you stake them and stay on top of removing suckers.
Tomatoes grow best in full sun.
Days to Maturity: 80-85
