‘Fat Frog’ Microdwarf Tomato

I first started growing microdwarf tomatoes three years ago. I tried several varieties and of all the ones I tried, fat frog was my favourite for flavour, fruit size and production.

Plants were originally created by Bunny Hop Farms, as a cross between two different varieties (Floragold Basket x (ATVO 0102 x Green Mustang)).

Fruit develop into gorgeous large green orbs with a yellowish tinge when fully ripe. Flavour is sweet, juicy, and slightly tangy. Skin is thin, which is important for a pleasant chew. I ate these fruits right off the plant. They had a wonderful juicy texture. Their constant abundance throughout the entire growing season allowed me to harvest continuous baskets, freeze many whole, make sauce, eat fresh and more! They have become an absolute must for my garden and I highly recommend them for yours, if you enjoy cherry tomatoes and want to maximize production in a small space.

Grow these plants indoors in a 1-gallon pot and they will grow to a height of 12”. I grew mine in a small raised bed with little support and they filled out to a height and width of 1.5 feet.

Growing Information:

Start seeds indoors at least 6 - 8 weeks before the final frost date. Please refer to my Seed Starting Calculator for specific planting dates for your area. Alternatively, start them anytime indoors and grow them through the winter under grow lights. Fruits will be ready for harvest approximately 3 months after sowing.

Transplant outdoors after all risk of frost has passed and space your plants a minimum of 2 feet apart. Plants require little staking, except for a bamboo cane or small tomato cage. Leave all suckers in place, as the plant will grow as a determinate type.

Tomatoes grow best in full sun.
